How To Create An Amazon Seller Account In 2024– Overview

How to start an Amazon business

How To Create An Amazon Seller Account

Amazon is great because you can start a business in several ways. You can achieve success on the platform in many ways, depending on your business model and the products you sell.

Regardless of your business model and the product you choose, the steps needed for getting started on Amazon remain the same.

1. Decide what business model you will follow first

  • Private Label: A retailer rebrands/renames a product that already exists on their own label or brand.
  • Wholesale: Wholesaling is the practice of purchasing low-cost or discounted goods in bulk in order to sell as individual units in a retail marketplace.
  • Online and/or Retail Arbitrage: This is the practice of finding low-cost or discount goods at brick-and-mortar stores (or on e-commerce sites) so that they can be resold on the Internet.
  • Dropshipping: When an Amazon seller dropships, they don’t maintain their own inventory, instead of transferring orders directly to the supplier or manufacturer.
  • Handmade:
  • A handmade seller is someone who creates their own products (“by hand”) to sell on Amazon. Items such as jewelry, accessories, and home decor can be made in this way.

2. Choosing your fulfillment method is the next step once you’ve decided on a business model

  • Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA);
  • Or Fulfillment by Merchant (FBM).

The pros and cons of both methods should be weighed carefully in order to determine which will be most beneficial to your business. You do not have to choose between them. FBM and FBA can both fulfill orders.

3. Then, think about the product(s) you’ll be selling

Your product (for example, handcrafted items) may already be ready to sell, but you should still follow this step to ensure that there will be sufficient demand for your product on Amazon.

4. If you find a product you would like to sell on Amazon, apply to become a seller

5. Upon approval of your application, Amazon will verify your information and you can begin sourcing your product.

6. Last but not least, create your product listing

You can then grow your Amazon sales from there once you have created your listing!

Alternatively, you can click on the ‘See pricing‘ link to view the difference between the individual and professional accounts and select the registration you desire.

3. Choose between a personal or professional account

Amazon’s seller plans come in two flavors: professional and individual.

Signing up as a ‘professional’ is your best bet if you sell more than 40 items per month. Although you may consider yourself to be a hobbyist and not a professional, this plan will still benefit you.

Choose the individual plan, however, if you plan on selling on a smaller scale (i.e. fewer than 40 units per month).

It is important to keep in mind, however, that with the individual plan, you will not be able to advertise on Amazon and your products will not be eligible for the Buy Box.

4. Choose ‘Create a New Account’ after entering your e-mail address

You will be asked to enter your email address and a password for your seller account once you have selected the right seller plan.

Click the ‘Next’ button when you’re done.

The second screen tells you that you need to approve the notification sent to your email address on the previous screen. Amazon is using this to verify that you entered the correct email address.

Amazon will send you a notification email, so be sure to accept it through the link provided.

  • Your business type:
  • Among the following business entities you will be able to choose (most of which fall under the ‘Private-owned’ category):
    • State-owned enterprise
    • Publicly owned companies
    • Business owned by a private individual
    • Charities
    • No, I am an individual

You can choose “None, I am an individual” if your business hasn’t yet been formed. By choosing this, Amazon will ask you to enter your full name in the next step.

  • Your full name: Type in your first name, middle name, and last name.
